Biography:
RUMFORD- Juliet E. Berry, 89, of Rumford passed away Friday June 27th at Ledgeview Living Center in West Paris.
She was born in Rumford on July 18, 1924 the daughter of the late Levi & Adeline Gallant. She was educated in Rumford until contracting tuberculosis in her early teens. After recovering from TB at the Hebron Sanitorium, she attended The Pelletier School of Beauty Culture in Lewiston.
After graduation, she opened a beauty salon in Farmington and operated it from the 1940s through the 1950s. She met the love of her life, Gerald Berry, in Farmington while he attended Farmington State Teacher’s College. On November 24, 1954 she married Gerald. After living in California for 6 years, they settled in Rumford where they raised two sons.
Juliet was a dedicated homemaker. She loved to cook, sew, dance and listen to all kinds of music. After learning line dancing in Florida, she offered lessons in the
Rumford area to children at the library and to adults at the Community Center.
She is survived by her two sons Michael and wife Gloria of Rumford, Steven and wife Tracey of Turner, grandchildren Eric and Shawn of Turner, Jason and fiancée Claire Horsman of Portland, Sarah of Yarmouth, and Meagan and Allison of Rumford.
She was predeceased by her husband Gerald, parents Levi and Adeline, sister Doris and brother William (Bill).
The family would like to thank the staff at Ledgeview for the excellent care they gave Juliet.
