Biography:

SOUTH HARPSWELL – Timothy Howard Bernard, 85, of South Harpswell, died May 9th, 2017 at Hill House in Bath. He was born May 18th, 1931 in Lewiston, ME, the son of Harold and Annie (O'Leary) Bernard of South Harpswell.

Timothy attended Edward Little High School where he participated in football, basketball, and baseball, and graduated with the class of 1949. He then attended Maine Maritime Academy where he played football and then graduated in 1951.

He was Chief Engineer in the Merchant Marine. He worked for Cities Services and American Maritime Officers. In retirement he was a lobsterman in South Harpswell, learned to skate, and loved his three golden retrievers, Happy, Molly, and Lilly, so much that he was known to his family as the Dog Father. He was very proud of his grandchildren. He enjoyed feeding the birds, working on his property, tinkering in his shop, and cheering for the Boston Bruins.

Timothy was predeceased by his mother and father, Harold and Annie Bernard, and his brother, Jack Bernard.

He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Mullen and husband James of Brunswick; his sons, Carl Bernard and wife Cathleen of Brunswick, and Alexander Bernard and wife Monica of Naples, FL; his six grandchildren, Kevin Mullen, Jason Mullen, Lindsay Bernard, Christopher Bernard, Kimberly Tardiff, and Alexander Bernard; a sister-in-law, Maureen Bernard of Brunswick and Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd, 2017 at 11 am at St. John the Baptist Church, 39 Pleasant St. in Brunswick. A committal service will be held privately at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Lewiston.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff of Coastal Landing, Aging Excellence, Hill House, and CHANs Home Health and Hospice.

In Lieu of flowers donations may be made in Timothy's memory to Coastal Humane Society, 190 Pleasant Street, Brunswick.
