Eric J Bellavance

Date of Death: May 31, 2022

Date of Birth: September 20, 1962

Biography:

LEWISTON-Eric J. Bellavance, 59, of Lewiston, passed away on May 31, 2022 at Central Maine Medical Center after a long battle with Muscular Dystrophy.

He was born in Lewiston on September 20, 1962 to Louis and Lorraine (Metayer) Bellavance and grew up in Auburn.

He was a long-time volunteer at Camp Sunshine, as well as a supporter of the National Education for Assistance Dog Services (NEADS).

In his younger years he enjoyed hiking, running and participating with his son’s activities. In his more recent years, he enjoyed spending time with family, quality time with his grandson Jonah, and yearly vacations with his wife. He was an avid history buff and enjoyed reading and watching documentaries. He also enjoyed taking senior classes through the University of Southern Maine, where he discovered his love of drawing. He appreciated time with his sons attending Dead & Company concerts and sharing his love of the Grateful Dead, as well as “Man Camp” time with his great friends, Dan, Mike and Eric. His introduction to Ike, his NEADS assistance dog, 7 years ago, blessed him with additional years of independence and companionship. Ike will retire as an assistance dog and remain a member of the family, but will sorely miss his buddy.

He worked for many years with the State of Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles, first as a Driver’s License Examiner, and retired in 2018 as a Driver/Rider Education Program and Medical Review Program Manager.

He was predeceased by both parents, his brother Mark and sister Paula (Poulin).

He is survived by his wife Diane, sons Zachary and Benjamin, grandson Jonah, his sister Sheila (Harrington), and brother Kirk. He is also survived by many extended family members.

Per his wishes, there will be no formal services and instead, family and close friends will hold an ash-spreading and Celebration of Life at a future date.

In Lieu of flowers, you may make donations in Eric’s name to:
