Dorothy M. Bailey

Date of Death: May 19, 2012

Date of Birth: July 3, 1922

Biography:

Augusta- Dorothy M. Bailey, 89, formerly of 215 Highland Avenue Terrace 2J, Gardiner, Maine died Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta with family at her side.

Born July 3, 1922, in Augusta, Maine, Dorothy was a daughter of the late Henry G. and Eva M. (Green) Duplessis. She married Richard M. Bailey on Thursday, June 27, 1946. The couple was married for seventeen years.

Dorothy was employed by Digital Equipment Corporation until she retired in 1987. She was awarded a Certificate of Merit for procedural improvements on the production line. Dorothy had previously been employed by several prominent Augusta families to whom she provided in-home senior care. Prior to that, she worked at Augusta General Hospital (Maine General Medical Center) as a nurses aide, J.S. McCarthy Printers and Hudson Pulp and Paper (Statler Tissue Co.). Dorothy's passion in life was family. She loved her parents, husband, children and siblings above all else. Money or possessions never mattered. Always young at heart, she enjoyed time in the community and many road trips. Even in her 60s, she attended music concerts by Heart, INXS and others. Dorothy's final remarks were about her last long-anticipated life journey. She asked, "am I going to heaven to be with momma?" Her family reassured her that she was, and with a twinkle in her eye she embarked.

Dorothy was predeceased in life by her husband Richard M. Bailey (1963); father Henry G. Duplessis (1936); mother Eva M. Duplessis (Green) (1947); a child at birth; sisters Marguerite C. Trefethen (1998), Edith M. Lancaster (2000), Janet B. Mcallister (2003); brother Henry G. Duplessis (2006).

Dorothy is survived by two sons, Richard M. Bailey of Randolph and his wife Millicent D. (Buckmore); Scott H. Bailey of Gardiner and his life-partner Roger E. St. Pierre. One brother-in-law Chauncey C. Lancaster of Weeks Mills. One sister-in-law Patricia L. Beaudoin (Bailey) of Old Orchard Beach. Several nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat Penny.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 25, 2012 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, lot 1-650/1, Augusta, Maine. Relatives and friends are welcome.

Please send memorial donations to Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta, ME 04330
