Louise D. Allen
Date of Death: June 21, 2024
Date of Birth: January 8, 1955
Biography:
LOUISE D. ALLEN
Lifelong resident of Brunswick, Maine. A daughter of Robert & Bernadette Dugal. She attended St John’s Catholic School and graduated from Brunswick High School in 1973.
Louise was immediately hired by Bowdoin College’s Payroll & Bookkeeping Department.
Met her best friend, Mark A. Allen in the fall of 1973.
After an adventurous courtship, she married Mark on May 21, 1977.
Raised a daughter Heather Lynn Allen born September 1981 and a son Shaun Robert Mark Allen born June 1985.
Retired from Bowdoin College in 1987 to be a full time Mother, a role she was passionate about.
Louise enjoyed sharing her God given talent to use her smile and expressive eye contact to lighten the day of everyone she encountered, especially little children who would reflect the loving gaze.
Louise was equally proud of Heather’s graduation from Quinnipiac University as an Occupational Therapist and Shaun’s graduation from Roger Williams University as an Architect & Historic Preservationist, often boasting of both of their professional accomplishments.
Mark’s retirement from a 43-year career with Bath Iron Works marked the beginning of Louise’s lifelong dream of traveling by car across the country and back. After 3 months and 12,000 miles, Louise and Mark returned home to a November snowstorm in Brunswick and birth of Shaun’s second son.
Louise felt her role as Grandma was God’s blessing for her life well lived, but never to be taken for granted for our time here is short and must always be shared with those we love, especially Shaun’s two boys Fischer and Caleb.
Louise’s final directives were don’t forget to water the plants, put down the shades, lock the doors, and thank everyone who provided me comfort and prayers during our final days together. Most importantly, she said, “share your smile and love of life with everyone for me.”
The family would like to share our sincere thanks to CHANs Hospice for making Louise’s final month at home with her family possible.
