Freddy was my best childhood friend. We trapped muskrats and caught carp on the Ole Res often from his 8 ft. dingy, weeded strawberries for North Farms farmers, sledded and built snow forts. My dad would take us fishing at Mackenzie Reservoir summer evenings and Freddy ALWAYS said "Thank you Mr. Soroko" when returning home. On Friday evenings we would walk to Greenbackers in the dark, listening to transistor radios, feasting on Hostess fruit filled pies, drinking root beer and talking about critical young boy topics. He helped my dad build my love of nature and the outdoors, something I will enjoy til my end of days here on my sheep farm in the Virginia Blue Ridge Piedmont. Thank you Freddy for all you gave me, may you Rest in Peace.
