Marlene and I met in 1957 in the freshman dorm where she and I were to become roommates. We were close friends those four years at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. and then we bravely moved together to Denver, Colorado (a city we knew nothing about, and where we had no jobs lined up). We took ski lessons that first winter and had such a good time. I was one of her bridesmaids when she married Clarence Gerberick in 1958. We stayed in contact mostly through mail ever since then. I am very sad to learn that Marlene has died. Even though we haven't seen each other for years, I always thought of her as a very close friend.

Marlene was such a wonder to me - always so kind and appreciative of everyone she came into contact with. Her creative talent was a testament to her outlook on life and those of us who were privileged to know her. Blessings to her family!
