December 15, 2017 | John Neal - Greene, ME -- United States

I will always remember "Mr. Babb" as a giant of a man, as I met him at five years old; he walked into my kindergarten class at Fairview School and pulled me out for a day of testing. He changed my life forever that day -- the tests pronounced me beyond kindergarten, and I was moved into second grade. The rest, as they say, is history. As an adult I was fortunate to be his colleague in the Auburn School Department and a member with Dick at the Auburn UMC; I will always remember him as a gracious man who unfailingly put others first. There is no measure to the positive impact he had on countless thousands of Auburn children, including me, and we have truly lost a giant with his passing. Please share my deepest condolences with his family and friends, as I will honor Dick Babb in memory for the rest of my life.

December 5, 2017 | John Backus - East Wilton, Maine -- US

It is very fond memories that I recall Dick Babb. As a fellow superintendent, I admired his knowledge in education and his calm manner in dealing with others. Even though I grew up in Wilton I did not know Dick until I became a superintendent and Dick was assistant superintendent in Auburn. However, I felt a special connection with Dick since my mother (Vestena Perkins Backus) baby-sat Dick. The Perkins and Babbs lived on Allen Street. I also recalled Barbara my freshman year at WA and she was the school secretary. And, finally, I knew their mother, Althea, when she served as librarian and like my mother, I visited the town library on a regular basis. She was a very delightful person. My thoughts and prayers go out to their families.

November 22, 2017 | Barbara Bouchard - Cornish, Me -- USA

Mr. Babb was my Elementary Supervisor at the Fairview School in Auburn back in the late sixties. He was a pleasure to work under and a master at what he did. My condolences to his family. He was a wonderful man.

Namaste, Dick. You taught me to take a moment to see things from another perspective. Thank you.

November 21, 2017 | John Miller - Turner, Maine -- US

I knew Dick as an elementary student and as my mother's boss at Washburn Elementary in Auburn. He was Assistant Superintendent at the time. Grace Arnold was the principal. He was respected and loved by them. I lived in a different part of the city but he allowed me to attend Washburn after my great aunt passed as she was my child care provider. I can remember him coming to my mom's room after school, sitting on the desk, and discussing ideas and successes with her class and individual students. My mother learned so much from him. He was truly a great educator and person. My best to his family.
