Biography:
Albert (Al) E. Landry, 95, of Auburn passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025 at Clover Health. He was born in Laconia, NH on March 3, 1930 to mother Demerise (Lagasse) Landry and father Philias Landry.
Al worked at Pepperell Mill, & 28 years on the Lewiston Fire Department. On his days off he worked as an electrician for Saindon & Son Electrical.
Al graduated from St. Dominics High School & proudly served his country during the Korean War (1948-52) as an Air Force flight engineer. He was a member of LA Veterans Council, the DAV Chapter 11, past Vice President of the American Legion Post 22, past Vice Commander of Veterans of Foreign War Post 9150 (merged with 1603 of Auburn), and played trumpet for the Auburn Community Band for 18 years. Al loved to play golf, hunt, drive to nowhere just because he could, and was an avid reader. Al donated the hundreds of books that he’d read over the years to local schools and to Togus VA Hospital.
He is predeceased by his wife Rita (Tancrede) Landry, & daughter Gloria LaRoche.
Al leaves behind many loved ones including his daughters Rachel Melanson (sp. Bill), Sonia Landry, & Denise Melanson (sp. Dan). Grandchildren Denis Wing (sp. Kathy), Angie Wing (sp. Jarrod), Matt Melanson (Nadia), Sierra Melanson (Blaine), Brianna Melanson (Francis). Great grandchildren Chris Stanley (Fi: Ashlei), Austin Wing (Mikhala), & Dalton Wing (Sp. Samantha), Son-in-Law David LaRoche, Niece Patti (Sp. Dan) Herrick, & Nephew Bob Landry (Sp. Karin). At Al’s request funeral arrangements will be under the care of his granddaughter Brianna Melanson.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Donna K, Deanna, & the whole Carlow Crew as he truly loved you all. Thank you to the staff at Belfast for your care and assistance during his final days.
Visitation will be Friday June 27, at Funeral Alternatives 25 Tampa Street Lewiston, from 11:00am to 1:00pm with a service at 1:00pm. Committal prayers will then follow at St. Peters Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, at Al’s request please send donations to Denise Melanson 32 Arkwright Avenue Lewiston, ME 04240 which will go towards a bench to be made in his honor at the Veterans Park in Lewiston.
