Date of Birth: February 14, 1931

Biography:

Richard “Dick” E. Gerry passed away in the early morning hours of February 11, 2021 after  battling cancer for several years.  Born February 14, 1931 in Shawmut, he was just shy of 90 years old.  Dick graduated from Lawrence High School in Fairfield and then served in the United States Air Force.  He was a proud veteran who was stationed in Okinawa during the Korean War and enjoyed sharing stories of his time in Japan.  After graduating from Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, he went to work for Central Maine Power Company, where he remained his entire career.  Dick worked his way up to a substation supervisor, the position he held the last several years of his employment.  He retired in 1994 to enjoy a long and happy retirement doing the things he loved: camping, wintering in Florida, and spending time with family.  Dick was also a proud Shriner and member of the Kora Temple in Lewiston.

Dick is predeceased by his wife Barbara King Gerry and his daughter Terrie Gerry. Dick shared the last several years of his life with his partner, Joyce Rowe, in their home in Clinton. He is survived by Joyce, and his daughter Kathy Moores and husband Scott; daughter Vickie Jacques and husband Ray; daughter Shawn Brooks and husband Brent; stepson Ron Farris and his partner Alan Cloutier; stepson Tim Farris and wife Bopha; and stepdaughter Roxann Lizzotte.  He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

No public funeral services for Dick will be held, and he will be buried in the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery when weather permits.  The family would like to thank the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care for the excellent care it provided to Dick in his fight against cancer.  Contributions in memory of Dick may be made to MaineGeneral Health to benefit the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care; please send your gift to MaineGeneral Health, Office of Philanthropy, PO Box 828, Waterville, ME 04903-0828.
