Biography:

Dorothy Emery Choate died peacefully on December 28, 2023. She was born on February 29, 1928 in Gardiner to Warren and Virginia (Perkins) Emery. She graduated from Gardiner HS in 1946 and married Richard P. Choate on April 4, 1948. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years and her son, Dale Robert.

After retiring from the State of Maine together, Dottie and Dick enjoyed boating and camping. They shared these adventures with their grandchildren, creating cherished memories. At the age of 54, Dottie learned how to ski and many winter days were spent at Mt Abrham, Sugarloaf and Bretton Woods. They loved thrilling adventures so they went white water rafting on the Kennebec and took a glider plane ride during one of their many trips to Acadia. Together they were active in the restoration of the Christ Church in Gardiner, where they were married, and later were active in the Manchester Community Church.

When Dottie was 83, she went skydiving. Her family and friends stayed on the ground to cheer her on and enjoy the adventure with her. Each summer, Dottie looked forward to attending shows at MSMT. Her love of the theater was passed on to her great and great, great granddaughters. After attending the Children's Theater, it was tradition to visit with Great Great Grammy Choate for ice cream.

In 2015, Dottie moved to Coastal Landing in Brunswick. She met many new friends and enjoyed group activities. She also loved her owl collection. Dottie had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She made friends everywhere she went. All whom loved her dearly will never forget her positivity, wit, charm, grace and underlying love for them.

Dottie was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She treasured her children and embraced every moment she had with them. She will be missed by her children; Virginia (Dan) Oliver, Stephen (Debbie)Choate, and Jeffrey (Lin) Choate.
