Biography:

Richard Donat Champagne, (82), beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, brother, and dearest friend, passed away peacefully at home on July 18, 2023 with his beloved family lovingly by his side.
Richard was born on May 25, 1941 to Joseph and Irene (Jalbert) Champagne. Also known as Dick to many, Richard was born and raised in Lewiston, Maine with his siblings, Gisele and Victor.
Richard graduated from Saint Dominic High school in 1958. After High School Richard joined the Marines where he proudly served as Corporal of the 2D Force Reconnaissance Company, completing over 100 jumps as a paratrooper around the world.
Richard spent most of his career as a sales person within the oil industry. He was an avid coin collector and enjoyed collecting coins from around the world. He enjoyed outdoor sports such as fishing and snowmobiling and was President of the Hillside Family Riders snowmobile club for several years. He also enjoyed playing cards and often participated in many cribbage tournaments in the area.
Richard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane (Fortin) Champagne of Lewiston, their children Penny (Champagne) Martin and Dave of Ashby, Massachusetts, and Joseph Champagne of Portland; grandchildren Joseph Champagne and Marlena of Litchfield, and John and Abbie Chenis of Lunenburg, Massachusetts; and his great grandchildren Haylee Champagne of Litchfield and Oliver Chenis of Lunenburg, Massachusetts. Richard is also survived by his sister Gisele (Champagne) Landry of Lewiston.
Our family would like to extend a very special thank you to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for their wonderful comfort, care, and guidance.
Richard will be laid to rest at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Augusta with a private family celebration.
