I was a student of Mr. Ryder for senior year English at Lewiston High School. He was a wonderful teacher, with a quiet, dignified but very encouraging style of teaching. I remember him passing out song lyrics of popular songs, encouraging us to find the poetry in them. If there had been a chance of me returning to thank a teacher, he would have been the person I would have sought out. Writing a sonnet in your class, Mr. Ryder, has always been one of the joys in my life. From one poet to another, thank you for sharing your gift.

Thank you, also, for treating a very shy, quiet, unpopular student (for whom school was a sad and bullied experience) with care, encouragement and understanding.

I had the privilege and pleasure of working with Wes when I taught English at LHS. He was a gentleman. He was a wonderful teacher. He was a great department head. May he Rest in Peace.

My sincerest condolences to Glenys and the family. It was my honor and privilege to know Wes through the Grange, where he often reminded us that the Grange should be about friends, family, food and fun--and not necessarily in that order. He also lived the Grange Motto: In essentials liberty, in non-essentials freedom, and in all things charity.
