July 4, 2021 | Ashley Hanson - Clinton, ME -- United States

Tommy was a great man. He was helping us make our move to Florida before he got sick. I wish we had more time. I would have loved for you to meet my kids. You will be greatly missed and one day I will get to Florida and see all the places you sent to me to check out. Love you cousin Tommy xo

I was so very sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. We went to Greely together...he was a year ahead of me and reached out a couple of years ago to thank me for some help I had given him towards the end of his Senior year. I had no idea he had been ill and was touched that he even remembered. He had the biggest smile and l always admired his free spirit. He will always hold a special place in my heart. Sending condolences to his entire family.

In High School, Tommy (That’s what I called him) always made me feel like his teammate. He took me under his wing, and made it a point to talk with me at meets. The only time we trained together was in swim camp during the summer in Orono, yet he always supported me. My memories of Tommy include him walking behind the blocks to give me encouragement, and a hard time too! But I just knew he was in my corner.
In 1977-78, Greely Swimming adopted a struggling Westbrook Swim Team. On their way to winning the last, combined team state championship, Greely brought us along for the ride. We experienced championship swimming, and Westbrook was a better team for it. That year, Tom Hanson won the Harold Paulson award for the outstanding swimmer of the meet.
I still feel a kinship with everyone from that Greely team. So many of those guys influenced our individual and team success.
We all lost a teammate when Thomas Hanson passed away.

April 26, 2020 | Debbie Galarneau - North Yarmouth, Maine -- USA

I met my husband, Preston, and Tommy, at Greely high school.I student taught there; and Preston began coaching swimming a few years after we married. Tom was part of one of the best periods of our lives; as he and his team mates, Coach Galarneau, and I bonded during swim season. We will never forget the year Tommy put Greely over the top in the State Meet, and Greely went on to first runner up in The New England’s!
We know his life after Greely must surely have been filled with the fun, hard work, humor, love, and joy of living that marked the years when we knew him.
We will miss you Tommy; just knowing you were part of the world put a smile on our faces. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and loved ones. We will always remember.

So sorry your life was cut so short. You will be missed. You were such a wonderful host when we’d visit in Fla. so many card games at your house and ours. So many many memories. We watched you grow through your life and your many victories, with pride. Your cousins and Uncle will miss all the golf games you use to have. RIP Tom, you are in a better place. We love you.

Tommy was a force of nature. He certainly lived life in his terms and wasted no moments to make memories. Although our lives took us to live in different states when we all gathered there was no time lapse.
In his last days I was fortunate enough to receive a call from my cousin and be able to have a conversation with him and tell him I loved him.
He had heartfelt words for his family, his sisters and especially my brother Scott who brought him home.
He will be remembered by all of us as the fun loving, live life to the fullest man he was.
Until we meet again cousin.
