July 21, 2021 | William R. Brown - Windham, NH -- United States

Although I did not know Marshall very well I know his sister Patsy and I would like to express my sincerest condolences to his family.

July 16, 2021 | Lois & David Widmer - Brunswick, Maine -- Cumberland

Lois & I are late getting the sad news. Marshall was a stellar person, always smiling, helpful as a neighbor across from my office @ Longfellow Ave.
We always felt lucky to have Marshall taking care of the yard at the office. He was very reliable, responsible.....and best of all, he let us know when the registrations or inspection stickers on our vehicles needed to be updated. I seem always to be 'past due' these days, and will always remember Marshall as I sheepishly pay my late fees.
He was truly a good neighbor.
We miss seeing you, too, Mary!

Linda and I were so saddened to hear of Marshall's passing. He was a true friend. We spent many good evenings sitting on Roger's deck with him, Roger, Nancy, and the Nelsons solving all the world problems and laughing so much. Marshall was kind, caring, had an infectious smile and he will be missed and live on the hearts of so many. He and Roger are now in Heaven watching over all of us. We share in your sadness.

A great man and friend that will be missed by everyone he met. you could never write enough kind words about him. He touched the lives of everyone, and gave us all a great example of what a kind person he was. Also to add how much he loved animals. especially the local dogs, who he always had a treat or two in his pocket for them. I will do my best to carry that tradition on. Miss you!

July 8, 2021 | Ellen Hall Campbell - Lisbon Falls, Maine -- USA

My brothers, Phil and Steve Hall, and I grew up on Chamberlain Avenue in the house where Mary Ellen now lives. Marshall and Steve were in the same BHS class, and I remember hearing about the Gott family as a child. My heartfelt sympathies to all of you.

July 7, 2021 | Robert & Joan Nelson - Bridgewater, Massachusetts -- United States

Marshall was a good friend to me and my wife. Our trips from Massachusetts to visit with him was always a pleasure. Marshall invited us into his home and made us feel as if we were part of his family. Our day trips around Maine with Marshall as our tour guide were always a great time. Marshall and I were Viet Nam buddies serving together with the 3rd Security Police Squadron and living in the same hut. Even in tough times Marshall was always able to smile. Joan and I miss Marshall and all the fun we had with him. Rest in Peace dear friend.

July 7, 2021 | Alan C. McGowen - Lincoln, Mi -- Alcona

I did not know Marshall as I was a class of '61 BHS graduate. But I was in Vietnam during the TET offensive, also serving as a Security Policeman. The heroic deeds of the men posted on Bunker Hill #10,that fateful night, are a legend in the history of tha Air Force and Security Police during the Vietnam era. Their bravery and courage were second to non. In my humble opinion, they each deserved the "Medal of Honor" in recognition for the countless lives and resources they saved by preventing the enemy from over running their position.

My hat is off to Marshall and his comrades of Bunker Hill #10.

Rest in peace my fellow Vietnam Veteran.

Alan C. McGowen, CMS, US Air Force, Retired

I served with Marshal while in Vietnam. We spent time together in several bunkers on Bien Hoa Air Base. He and I were together at Bunker Hill 10. I wish his family to know that he was a good soldier and a friend. My deepest condolences to his family

July 7, 2021 | Al & Marilyn Strout - Harpswell, ME -- USA

So very sorry to learn of Marshall's passing. We used to sit next to he & Lois at Bowdoin Hockey games. A wonderful person!

July 7, 2021 | Richard Gano - Canby, Oregon -- United States

Rest in peace, Brother in arms! I was stationed at Bien Hoa as a Security Policeman and personally know the sacrifice you and all of the 3rd Security Police gave during TET and other events. God bless!

And Now We Say Goodbye

Great sadness fills our hearts today
as pipes and drums, in slow march play
A comrade’s fallen by the way,
And now we say goodbye.

This hero to the very end
Was more than just a casual friend,
Who would a stranger’s life defend,
And now we say goodbye.

But we shall cherish, all our days,
The character this life portrayed
With sacrifice so freely made,
And now we say goodbye.

The hand salute, o’er Stars and Stripes,
And distant skirl of highland pipes,
Give last farewell with hero’s rights,
And now we say goodbye.

While here on Earth, you gave your best.
Now in the Master’s arms you rest.
T’is by your memory we are blessed.
And now we say goodbye.

July 6, 2021 | Mary Ellen - Brunswick , Maine -- USA

My brother, my best friend. He gave so much of himself to everyone and expected nothing in return. We took a trip to the Rockies, drove to Florida, water skied, cross country skied, kayaked and went to the theater together for years. To say he will be missed is an understatement.
