May 15, 2022 | John Snow - Port Clyde , Me. -- USA

Dear Janice, I was very sorry to hear of David death. As you may know, he was a member of the same fraternity as I was, Sigma Nu at Bowdoin, and a very valuable member of the college's football team. When I learned that he and you spent a part of your summer vacation on your sailboat and most of your time cruising the Maine coast I always hoped that you would stop by to see us in Port Clyde. That never seemed to fit your schedule. He had a very successful working life and I know they kept asking him to return after he retired. A very nice life!

March 10, 2022 | Becky (Smith) Ball - Dover, NH -- US

Dear Jan (although it will always be Mrs. Gosse to me😊) Sarah & Brian,
My cousin Wanda saw the obituary and reached out to Melanie with the news. I am so very sad and my heart is heavy. I was visiting with my mom & dad (now both 90) with Mel when she told us. I just can’t express the sorrow. I know Dave lived life to the fullest but still it doesn’t take away the pain of the loss. Each of you know it would take pages to list all the memories, but of course it is sailing, skiing, and hiking that comes to mind. My mom always said that she had a fourth daughter in Sarah, and I know that Jan and Dave felt that I was their second daughter. Joined at the hip we were, Sarah! I will reach out directly to you my friend, as I miss you and appreciate your continued correspondence at Christmas time. I was going to call you even before I heard. But I want to tell you all, you probably can’t imagine the memory that first came to mind…it was sitting at your dinning table, just Dave and me, with math books open and paper & pencil, as he took all the time in the world and all the patience of a saint and tutored me. He took a subject I could not for the life of me grasp and put it all into terms I understood. He didn’t care how long it took me to solve those problems, he kept at it and never criticized. Those tutoring sessions left a mark on me, and wouldn’t Dave get a good laugh to know I am now running my own business!
I love you all and my heart is with you.
With sympathy,
Becky (Smith) Ball

A wonderful colleague and terrific conversationalist. A generous soul. And, by golly, could he dance! Heartfelt condolences.

Dear Jan, on behalf of myself, Leslie, Kelsey, and Annie, I write to express our sorrow at the news of David's death and our condolences to you. You two have played a big part in our lives at Govs and beyond -- from your perennial garden outside Commons (that you entrusted Kelsey to water in your absences), to your lovely home on Argilla Rd., to fast runs down Cannon Mountain. With love, Bill

Jan, I'm so very sorry for your loss. David was an amazing mentor to me on so many fronts! As a teacher, as an adventurer, as a person. I think of you both often, especially when I'm out on the bay. I will continue to do so. And to all of you, David impacted thousands of people; his legacy will go on.
