Walter George Zonas

Date of Death: June 16, 2025

Date of Birth: February 20, 1946

Biography:

Walter George Zonas—a free spirit with a deep love for nature, music, collected treasures, and cherished friendships—passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta, Maine.

Born on February 20, 1946, Walter had a special talent for spotting the beauty in everyday life—and uplifting others to notice it too. He delighted in collecting charming little treasures—colorful glass bottles, crystals, quirky antiques, and folk‑art pieces—each one reflecting his playful curiosity.

Music was his lifelong companion. With his six‑string acoustic guitar always at hand, he composed heartfelt lyrics and soulful melodies that echoed the purity of his spirit. Whether among close friends or at family gatherings, his gentle, sincere songs lingered long after the last chord faded.

When life felt heavy, Walter turned to the Bible for comfort—especially in Hebrews 4:9–10 (ESV):

"So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from His."

These verses spoke to him of the peace that comes from trusting in God's grace—reminding him to rest and find strength in His presence.

Walter is survived by his daughter, Briana Zonas and her daughters, Lily-Lorraine N. Naso and Olivia M. Naso; His son, Nathan S. Zonas (Amanda) and their daughters, Cora G. Zonas and Hailey M. Zonas; His sister, Virginia Egbert; and a special thank you to his close friend, Lorrane E Drury, who brought joy and support to his life.

Walter will be laid to rest at Saint James Cemetery, 249 Cross Street, Naugatuck, Connecticut. A private family burial will take place, with a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.
