Timothy E Leighton

Date of Death: June 8, 2025

Date of Birth: December 7, 1973

Biography:

Timothy Elwin Leighton, 51, took his last breath at his home in Wales, Maine, on Sunday afternoon surrounded by the love of his two sons, his two siblings, and his parents.
Born in Manchester, New Hampshire to Stanton and Elizabeth Leighton, Tim moved with his family from Chester, NH to the century-old family farm in Wales, Maine before beginning his school years. Tim built cabins and forts with many neighborhood friends; rode his 4-wheelers and snowmobiles all over the land, particularly with his childhood friend, Burton Ham. Tim graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1992. He was always active in sports, including being the star pitcher of both his little league teams and then high school teams until he had an injury his junior year. He pursued a year of metalwork at Northern Maine Community College before beginning a 30-year career at AirTemp HVAC based in Westbrook, Maine, where he created lifelong friendships and a work family who loved him like their very own.

Tim's biggest accomplishments by far were his two sons, Caleb and Colby. There was nothing more that he loved than being with his two boys. He devoted countless hours to coaching and supporting their sports, particularly soccer, and worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for not only his two boys, but for other children. His passion for youth sports shined through in his efforts to organize and fund out of his own pocket, various soccer initiatives, and tournaments throughout the state of Maine, so that all kids could join the fun. He really enjoyed coaching along side Chad Pickett, whom he developed a close friendship, both with the same goal of building skills on not just the soccer field but skills for life.
An avid fan of the New England Patriots, Tim loved watching football especially during their dynasty years. He loved fishing and ice fishing especially at his favorite place, the family camp, "Uncle Leo's Camp", on Brassua Lake.

Tim leaves a legacy behind him in his two boys Caleb and Colby Leighton; his parents, Stanton and Elizabeth Leighton; his sister Mary Leighton (partner Sean) and nephew Benjamin, all of Wales; and his brother Gregory Leighton (wife Brenda) of Warrenton, Virginia. He is also survived by numerous cousins, aunts; uncles, and a wide circle of friends. Tim always maintained close ties with his former wife, Rachel Leighton (Draper), and her family, who continued to love him dearly by including him in all family events.

The family wishes to extend our gratitude to Dr. Christian Thomas's Team at New England Cancer Specialists for their tireless efforts to fight this disease. We also want to thank the incredible and compassionate team from Andwell Home Hospice, especially nurse Stacy, for being "angels in scrubs", allowing us to make it through the final and most incredibly difficult journey of our lives, and to grant Tim's wish to "be home."  Rest easy Tim, we will love you and miss you always.

"Perhaps they are not just stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy."

For those wishing to make donations in memory of Timothy, the family encourages donations to a nonprofit organization of your choice that promotes youth enrichment particularly through sports and recreation.

A celebration of life will be held to honor Tim's legacy on Saturday June 28, 2025, at 1pm at Oak Hill High School gymnasium.
