DR. William "Bill' G. LeFurgy

Biography:

Dr. William “Bill” G. LeFurgy, of Brunswick, Maine, passed away peacefully in his sleep
on July 24th, 2025 at the age of 94, living fifty years longer than he ever expected to. He
was born in New Rochelle, New York to Dr. William G. LeFurgy Sr. and Ethel LeFurgy
(née Pike) on December 15, 1930.
He entered the Air Force in 1949 serving until 1952 when he was honorably discharged
as a Staff Sergeant. Later in life, he was a proud Veteran for Peace. He attended the
University of Oklahoma on the G.I. Bill earning a bachelor’s degree in Psychology going
on to earn a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology at Cornell
University. He was a lifelong academic focused on children’s cognitive development.
His career took him to professorships at Princeton University and then Skidmore
College from which he retired in 1992.
Following retirement, he moved with his family to West Lafayette, Indiana where he was
an active volunteer with local food banks, a set-builder for the community theater, youth
softball coach, and leader with the National Alliance on Mental Illness. He spent the last
12 years living in Brunswick, Maine with his wife of 46 years, Karen Diamond.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children William (Lisa Weber), Rhonda
Gleeson (Jeff), Jennifer (Rick Haughey), Amy (Sydney Miller), and Kate (Winston Blake
Jr.) and his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held with family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests
