James Russell Kenoyer

Date of Death: July 7, 2025

Date of Birth: December 13, 1946

Biography:

JAMES RUSSELL KENOYER, a resident of Augusta and formerly of Boynton Beach FL and Scarborough, Maine, died July 7, 2025 at the Togus VA Center, after spending time in their hospice unit, following a series of debilitating strokes. Jim was born December 13, 1946 at Mercy Hospital in Portland, ME. He was the oldest of five children born to Jean and Margaret (Johnson) Kenoyer. He attended Scarborough schools, graduating in 1966. He then joined the Navy for 4 years and served on a submarine tender based in Charleston SC.

Returning to Scarborough, he enrolled at the Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute (now known as the Southern Maine Community College) in South Portland and majored in culinary arts.
Upon graduation, he followed his parents to Florida and remained there until 2011. He held a variety of jobs in construction and landscaping, but his favorite was working for Bass Pro Shops in the fishing department. He was a lifelong avid fisherman and was so proud of having his own Bass boat. He taught his two nephews to fish and it became a lifelong love for them as well.

He was pre-deceased by his parents: Jean Ellis Kenoyer and Margaret Louise Johnson, and by his two brothers: Paul Johnson and Christopher Jay Kenoyer.

He is survived by his two sisters: Judith Stoy (William) of Brunswick, ME and Nancy Neely (Robert) of Milbridge, ME. Also survived by a niece, Shawna Ledbetter (Travis) and two nephews, Kenneth and Matthew Stoy. He is also survived by approximately 35 First Cousins on his paternal line and one First Cousin, Susan, and one Second Cousin, Richard Shaw (Jane), on his maternal line. Jim was very much a "family man" and loved getting together with his relatives. He was able to stay in touch with many of them on Facebook.

At his request there will be no service. His ashes will be placed at a later time at the family plot in Milo ME. His family wants to thank the doctors and nurses at Togus VA Hospital where he has received exceptional care.
