Date of Death: May 10, 2025
Date of Birth: May 4, 1942
Biography:
Charles B. Kellogg Jr.
1942 – 2025
Charles B. "Chuck" Kellogg, Jr. passed away at his home in Topsham on May 10, 2025, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
Chuck was born in Montague, Massachusetts, on a beautiful day in the spring of 1942, the youngest child and only son of Charles and Alice Kellogg. He grew up in New Salem and graduated from New Salem Academy in 1961. That same year, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a P-2 and P-3 aircraft mechanic at the Brunswick Naval Air Station until 1965. It was in Brunswick that he met the love of his life, Carole.
Following his military service, Chuck attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 1965 to 1967, earning an associate degree in Arboriculture and Park Management.
After working several positions in New Hampshire, he and Carole returned to Maine in 1974, where Chuck began a long career with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection's Land Bureau. In this role, he monitored and inspected commercial construction projects of all sizes to ensure compliance with environmental laws.
After retiring, Chuck dedicated his time to his favorite hobbies. As a woodcarver, he was both an artist and a craftsman—creating beautiful sculptures and hand-carved signs for local businesses. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traditional archery. As a hiker, he loved exploring the trails of places like Baxter and Camden Hills. Above all, he treasured time spent with family and friends.
Chuck is predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Charlotte and Gwen. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carole; his son Christopher, wife Molly, and their children Hazel and Oliver; his daughter Julie Jurgiewich, husband Michael, and their children Ryan and Jamie; his sister Joan; Carole's brother Stephen; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
The Kellogg family wishes to thank the compassionate caregivers, staff, and residents of The Highlands, as well as the nurses and staff at CHANS Home Health & Hospice. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, June 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Holden Frost House, 24 Elm St., Topsham.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Chuck's memory may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation (https://www.michaeljfox.org/) or the Maine State Museum (https://mainestatemuseum.org/).
