Merrill Roberts Hunt
Date of Death: February 2, 2026
Date of Birth: January 23, 1939
Biography:
Merrill Roberts Hunt (87) of Falmouth, Maine died peacefully at home, his wife and daughter by his side, on Monday evening, February 2, 2026.
Bob wrote his own words for his obituary as follows: I was born in Portland, Maine on January 23, 1939, the son of Merrill D. and L. Katherine (MacIntosh) Hunt. We lived in Portland until moving to Falmouth in 1947.
On July 21, 1962 I married my best friend, the love of my life, Janet McLean. We lived in Falmouth, except for the three years I was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii while serving in the U. S. Navy. After the Navy, I went to the University of Maine School of Law in Portland. I practiced in Portland but deeply regret not making the Navy my career.
My family, friends and acquaintances knew my likes, dislikes, hopes, dreams, professional accomplishments, my philosophy of life, belief in and deep reverence for God. There is no need to list them for total strangers to read.
For those I loved and cared for, I say enjoy your family, friends, and acquaintances. Their love for you and yours for them is more important than any worldly accomplishment or possession. Tell them often how much you love them because you will wish you had after they die and it is too late. Live life every moment, laugh, sign (sing or both), and dance as if no one is watching. Remember you live in the greatest country the world has ever known. God bless America and those I love.
I am survived by my wife of 63 years, Janet McLean Hunt, my daughter, Virginia Elizabeth Hunt of Groveland, CA, my granddaughter, Ashlee C. King, great-grandsons, Jaxon J. and Maverick R. King all of Livermore, CA, and my grandson, Bryan E. Krewson, USMC currently stationed in CA, sister-in-law, MaryAnn M. McLean of Cumberland, ME, niece, Megan M. Farris, and nephews, Colin C., Ian A., and Duncan C. McLean.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s name to Hart of Maine Adoption Center & Shelter for Cats where he adopted his beloved cats, Mr. Black and Sir St. Simon.
