Edward F Geisssler

Date of Death: June 24, 2022

Date of Birth: December 30, 1954

Biography:

Hallowell-Edward Francis Geissler, 67, passed away peacefully at his home on June 24, 2022 due to complications from a stroke, with his family at his side.

Ed was born in Staten Island, NY. Growing up, he moved around a lot with his family, as his dad was in the Coast Guard. He graduated high school from John Bapst Memorial High School, class of 1972, in Bangor, Maine. He joined the Army out of high school and did a 3-year tour of duty based in Okinawa. After the army, he moved back to Bangor and joined the Bangor Police Department. From 1977-2001, Ed was a police officer, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. Upon retiring, he worked for INS for a bit before fully embracing the retired life.

Ed enjoyed construction work. He was always building (or wrecking) something. Whether it was removing the entire second floor of his home in Bangor, or building a brand-new two story garage, he always had a project going to keep him busy. Every house he lived in ended up with a few of his custom projects. A fully renovated basement in Brewer, a built-in bookshelf at his son Andrew’s house in Texas, a new outdoor walkway and fire pit at his home in Hallowell, there was always something keeping him busy.

Ed found a love for geocaching upon his retirement. He always got the funny looks with his Garmin GPS and palm pilot in hand, digging around in some random bush or tree. But those that know Ed know strange looks never really bothered him. One of his crowning achievements was completing the Texas County Challenge, finding a geocache in every Texas county (there are 254 of them!). Ed (and Sharon, his wife and loyal geocaching partner) managed to actually get at least two geocaches in every county of Texas. In the end, Ed and Sharon (known as egsg on geocaching.com) found 17,471 geocaches!

Ed also had a love of video games. From Atari to Nintendo, all the way up to PC gaming, Ed and his son Andrew were always playing something. The general rule was that Ed would get the experience, and Andrew would beat the bosses. Building PCs together back in the 90s was what got Andrew interested in the computer industry.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Shirley Geissler; first wife, Laura Jane Geissler; and daughter, Jennifer Geissler.

Ed is survived by his loving wife Sharon Geissler, from whom he was inseparable for over 20 years; son Andrew Geissler; stepsons AJ Hayes and Rob Hayes; granddaughters Anna and Grace Hayes; grandson Camden Hayes; sister Mary Harmon; and brothers Greg, Raymond, and Peter Geissler.

Ed will be cremated upon his request and the family will be having a private memorial for him in Maine.
