Biography:
Raymond Lionel Gagnon, age 81, of Lewiston, Maine, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with leukemia, resulting from exposure to Agent Orange while serving his country in Vietnam.
Born on January 18, 1944, Raymond was a proud graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1962. He was a true patriot who served his country with honor in the U.S. Air Force for four years, including one year in Vietnam. His commitment to service continued throughout his life, both professionally and personally.
Ray worked for many years in manufacturing sales, including positions at American Concrete and Quality Carpets Manufacturing. In retirement, he enjoyed part-time work at Republic Jewelry, where he remained active and engaged with his community.
He was an active member of United Commercial Travelers, the American Legion, and the Elks Club. Ray’s hobbies included participating in competitive pool leagues, volunteering as a bingo caller, and buying, selling, and collecting cars.
As the oldest child in his family, Ray was a steady and dependable presence for his siblings, especially during difficult times. He was deeply respected and looked up to by his brothers and sister, always offering support, guidance, and strength when it was needed most.
Ray was predeceased by his mother, Leone Thibodeau Gagnon; his father, Lionel Gagnon; and his sister, Phyllis Gagnon Poulin.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Claudette, his first and last love, with whom he shared the last ten joyful years of his life. Together, they cherished traveling and especially enjoyed picnics by the ocean. Ray is also survived by two children; brothers Paul (and wife Joyce) and Daniel (and wife Donna); brother-in-law Daniel Poulin; several step-children (Cary, Ernie, Glen, Anna and Jim); many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at Unity Bible Church, 541 College St., Lewiston, ME, on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
