Biography:
TOPSHAM – Richard (Dick) Coombs,88 passed away on June 5, 2025, after a brief stay at Dionne Commons in Brunswick, where he made his transition to his heavenly mansion. John 14:2-6 with his loving family by his side.
He was born in November, 1936, in Bath, son of Myron M. Coombs and Florence (Dubreuil) Coombs. He attended Morse High School and graduated in 1956. After graduation from high school, he attended a half of a semester at Santa Barbara Jr. Collage in CA. He then returned to Maine and was a dedicated member of the Maine Army National Guards, for three years.
He married Leila M. (Grimmel) Coombs, whom he loved dearly, and in October he would have been married with the love of his life for 40 years.
His early years, he was employed as a vacuum cleaner door-to-door salesman and for a time also sold Amway products. He started his employment for Bath Iron Works and worked in the paint shop for 30+ years before he retired in 1998. He and his spouse Leila then started a business called, Angels on Call/ Caring Hands for the Elderly and for the next 20+ years they had over 112 clients.
Also, during his retirement years. He and his wife Leila totally enjoyed traveling to Florida, during the winter months and playing golf together. A sport they could take pleasure in together.
To say that Richard was an avid sports fan is an understatement. He followed the Boston Red Sox’s, New England Patriots and his favorite, the Boston Celtics which he very seldom missed watching. When there were any family and friend gatherings, he would always share his views on how they were doing in the standings.
His faith in Jesus Christ led him to fellowship, along with his wife, at Harbor Light Full Gospel Church in Topsham where he was part of the music ministry playing the drums, always glorifying God with his talent. Richard’s Favorite scripture was, “God shall supply all my needs according to his riches in glory.” Philippians 4:19
Richard was predeceased by his parents, his brother Michael Coombs; and grand-daughter Sarah Roderick.
He is survived by his loving wife Leila, his 2 daughters & their spouses Diane (Brian) Roderick of New Hartford CT & Christine (Scott) Sullivan of Dracut, MA. A step-daughter Lorelei Barclay of Topsham and a step-son Russell (Christina) Noyes of Florida.
9 grandchildren, step-grandchildren, Christoper; Alyssa; Michael; Brett; Gracie; Joshua; Danielle; Hollie and Scott. 9 great-grandchildren & step-great-grandchildren, Evan; Mason; Jaden; Azalea; Eva; Von, Islie; Elliot and Ansel. He is leaving many precious memories with all his loved ones left behind.
