Mary Robinson Brown

Date of Death: January 9, 2026

Date of Birth: April 25, 1944

Biography:

Mary Robinson Brown, a devoted wife, mother, and compassionate advocate for others, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026 in Brunswick, Maine.

Born on April 25, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri, Mary lived a life defined by love, resilience, curiosity, and a deep reverence for the natural world. Above all else, she had a profound love of trees—their quiet strength, endurance, and beauty—that ultimately drew her to make her home in Maine, where forests and nature were never far from her door.

She earned a college degree in social work early in life, but chose to place her professional goals on hold to raise her family—a decision rooted in devotion and care. As the wife of Robert Brown, a United States Navy serviceman, Mary moved back and forth across the country in support of his career. In each new place, she created a sense of home and stability, carrying with her a calm presence and an ability to adapt with grace.

After Robert’s retirement from the Navy, Mary returned to her lifelong calling of service. She worked as a social worker, dedicating herself to helping seniors and supporting families affected by Alzheimer’s disease. Her empathy, patience, and quiet understanding brought comfort to many during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Mary found joy in reading and in making things with her hands—cooking, knitting, and exploring new crafts. One of her most cherished pursuits was learning to weave baskets, beginning simply, sometimes with little more than a log, and transforming natural materials into something both functional and beautiful. It was a reflection of how she saw the world: full of possibility, shaped gently by care and attention.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, Robert Brown; her daughter, Angela; and her son, Matthew.

She will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, love of nature, and unwavering dedication to family and service. Her legacy lives on in the forests she loved, the lives she touched, and the quiet kindness she shared so freely.
