Vernon (Vern) Brackett

Date of Death: August 13, 2025

Date of Birth: January 4, 1943

Biography:

Vernon (Vern) Brackett, 82 of Woolwich, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

Vern was born January 4, 1943, in Anson Maine.  Son of Harold G. Brackett and Marguerite Williams, both from Madison Maine.  The Bracketts moved to Bath in 1943 where Vernon attended Bath schools and was a graduate from Morse High School.  After high school Vernon enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended boot camp in Great Lakes, MI.  From there he attended “A” school in Millington, Tennessee.  After completing “A” school, he was assigned to VT1 Training Squadron at Naval Air Station Saufley, in Pensacola Florida as an Aviation Machinist Mate ADR-3.

In 1964 Vernon married Ellen Mills Armstrong.  After honorable discharge from the Navy, Vernon worked for AVCO Lycoming in Bridgeport, Connecticut as a gas turbine engine tester. The Bracketts moved to Maine and Vernon took a job in the nuclear power industry at Maine Yankee in Wiscasset in 1971.  Vern retired from there after 29 years.  He enjoyed his time working in the warehouse there and had fond memories of the characters that we worked with over the years.

After retirement, Vern worked for White Pine Landscaping in Bath and had the pleasure of mowing and trimming lawns for property owners in the coastal area.

Vernon grew up with a passion for cars and owned several muscle cars as well as a beautiful blue corvette known as MYOT (My Overtime) that was his pride and joy. Vern was an avid guitar player and owned over 20 guitars.  Vern would spend hours playing his music.  For many years, Vernon loved camping with his family, salmon fishing, waterskiing, and even some downhill skiing.  Nikon photography was a hobby Vern also enjoyed.  He also loved his dogs and had a particular love for Rat Terriers.  Vernon has lived at his home in Woolwich since 1972.

He is survived by a daughter Lori Brackett and grandson Lucas Quimby; son David Harold Brackett, US Air Force and his wife Angela; grandsons David Harold Brackett Jr (D.J.), Wyatt Brackett US Army, granddaughter Elizabeth Kennett, and four great-grandchildren Noah, Alyssa, Colton and David Harold Brackett III (Harry).

The family will hold a private service at the family cemetery plot in Madison, Maine.
