April 22, 2020 | Brendan Krueger - Freeport, ME -- United States

I had the privilege of getting to know Gar when he first visited the Brunswick Adventist Church. He was always cheerful, inquisitive, and helpful. He was kind enough to spend some time in a couple of classrooms at Pine Tree Academy, working with the students and teachers. He invited me to be a part of the Arts and Cultural Alliance in Freeport, as they laid the groundwork for an arts center. Although I was unable to make it, he invited me to participate in a discussion "club" at his house. I appreciated Gar's interest in spiritual matters, his passion of educating children, and his love of life. I'm so sorry to hear about his death.

Sincerely,

Brendan Krueger, Principal
Pine Tree Academy

Dear Betsy and Kevin, We are so sorry to learn of Gar's death. We'll never forget our first time meeting Gar at OMNI camp. On the drive there, Adam ranted that we couldn't make him go to a camp! When we arrived to see the camp, he was refusing to get out of the car. Gar came over and when he saw Adam's arm in a cast,he pointed with his pipe and said: "skating?" and Adam grunted "yes". Gar said come with me and told him he wanted to show him something. Adam reluctantly got out of the car and Gar opened his car trunk and showed him some inline skates! And that was all it took, off they went to explore the camp! Adam talked all the way home about what he could do at OMNI! A fond memory for us. With deepest sympathy, John and Pam Dyer

It has been many years since I have seen Gar personally, but I have kept up with his life through a mutual friend (Denis Nadas). Gar and I knew each other from our years together at college.

It was with great sorrow and sadness that I recently learned of his passing. I hope that his family and friends can take comfort in the memories of his remarkably thoughtful, energetic and generous life.
