Jack was my cousin; but since he was 13 years older than me, I always looked up to him as my “senior.” A wounded and decorated Marine during World War II, Jack brought honor to his country and our family. I’ve always been very proud of him. As written in the book “Dogs at War,” Jack (known as “the Kid”) was one of the first U. S. servicemen to engage in combat with a dog. His dog, Andy, went on patrols with Jack and his “daredevil” buddy, PFC Robert Lansley, and saved many Marine lives by his ability to sense the “invisible” enemy.
I don’t know who wrote Jack's obituary, but it is excellent and brings back fond memories of Jack’s love of people and nature – and his readiness to enjoy life and help others have a good time.
