Alex was a wonderful friend and colleague. His sense of humor, intelligence, and compassion for others will be dearly missed. Alex had a knack for bringing people together, and did so faithfully for as long as I knew him (47 yrs.) Our condolences go to Candace, Peter, Kiersten, Margaret, Daniel, and other members of Alex's extended family.

Please accept our sincerest condolences on Alex's passing. We remember him as an unassuming person who combined great warmth with a brilliant mind. We know he is very much missed by all of you. John and I met Alex through Candace with whom I once worked. Following retirement we enjoyed their company in Maine where we too have a home.
Alex and I both emigrated to the USA from England in 1959. It was fun to compare notes and reminisce about school life over there and about the surprises we encountered in adjusting to life here. Of course, Alex had made many more difficult transitions in early life than I had.
John and I had only an inkling of the kind of work Alex did. On reading his obituary we realize how significant a contribution he made at a critical time in our country's history. You must be proud of him!
Incidentally, I remember how it pleased me that Alex was willing and capable of preparing a delicious meal for us. That was quite unusual for a man of our generation!
Alex's extended family was most important to him, which I am confident you all realize and are comforted by that fact.
Special thoughts to my dear friend, Candace, and to Rupert whom I remember fondly.
Bridget
