Virginia M. (Batsford) Jamieson Virginia M. (Batsford) Jamieson of Georgetown, Maine, passed away peacefully at home on September 6. She was 94 years old.

Virginia was born at home in Stow, Massachusetts, to William and Nettie (Reynard) Batsford. She was a proud graduate of Stow’s Hale High and the beloved wife of George A. Jamieson for 62 years.

Virginia and George first met at a farm stand where Virginia was selling strawberries. From that first meeting, their relationship grew, and they spent 11 years together before marrying. They purchased a home in Boxborough, Massachusetts, and even before they began living there, the milkman had started delivering milk. That home would become the center of their family life for the next 46 years, where Virginia and George raised their family and created countless cherished memories.

Virginia was a woman who gave generously of herself to her family and her community. She was involved with the United Church of Christ and the Boy Scouts and found her way to Blanchard Memorial School, where she spent more than 20 years working in the cafeteria and serving the students. Her kindness and caring nature touched many of the people she met throughout those years.

After retiring to Georgetown, Maine, Virginia and George quickly became deeply involved in their new community. They contributed their time and energy to the local newspaper, The Tide, the Historical Society, the Fire Department, and the Working League. Virginia embraced Georgetown wholeheartedly, and she and George considered it a “slice of Heaven.” It was a place where many additional memories were made with their family and their very close friends, Warren and Billie Todd.

Virginia’s greatest joy was her family and her friends in Georgetown, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and treasured memories.

She is survived by her son, George W. Jamieson of Georgetown; her daughter, Debra Murphy and her husband, Jack, of St. Cloud, Florida; her granddaughter, Lauren Hoffer and her husband, Ryan; and her great-granddaughter, Ruby Grace, all of Alexandria, Virginia. She also leaves behind her brother, Bernard Batsford of Sacramento, California; her sister, Carolyn Raposo of Boxborough, Massachusetts many nieces and nephews.

Virginia was predeceased by her parents, William and Nettie; her husband George; her granddaughter, Erin Murphy; and her brothers, William, Charles and Herbert.

For those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Virginia’s name, the family kindly suggest the Georgetown Working League Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 262, Georgetown, Maine 04548.

There will be a private burial.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 9th at the Georgetown Community Center.

When we first moved to Georgetown nearly nine years ago, my husband “went exploring” down the street to Flying Point. He met George and Ginny. When I got to Working League meetings, I made the connection and we were immediately fast friends. Her family welcomed me, too.

She had also been a member of the GWL since she moved to Georgetown. We traveled together to meetings and quilting where she picked balsam and cleaned up our threads; when she gave up her license, I took her on errands when needed. A sweeter woman would be hard to find. I will miss her.❤️
