Richard Patrick Paaso

R.Paaso

Richard Patrick Paaso, 84, of Hanover, died on June 13th, 2026, at The Woodlands Memory Care Center of Lewiston

Born, March 23rd, 1942, to Barbara Bushey and Mr. Paaso in Duluth, Minnesota.

He served just shy of three years for the U.S. Army before attending The University of Oklahoma where he played football for the Sooners. Following his education he opened his own health club, Workout Plus in Dedham, Massachusetts. Later on, Richard moved north to Maine with his family to allow his children to pursue skiing at a higher level. In turn Richard worked as a freestyle coach at Sunday River.

Richard was not a part of any formal clubs, but he did spend any of his spare time working with athletes of all levels, from training sessions with The New England Patriots, strength conditioning with Olympic athletes in freestyle skiing and various other sports. His favorite time was no doubt watching his children and grandchildren excel in their respective sports.

On December 10th, 1977 Richard began his run streak that lasted all the way up till his placement at a memory care center in June 2022. That consisted of running every day, no matter for a minimum of a mile. In the late 80s, early 90s he was introduced to skiing and mountain biking, a passion he shared with his children that is still enjoyed today. Beyond running and biking, Richard enjoyed his days with his beloved dogs, from Friday and Shadow, in his earlier years, to Freja, whom he spent the majority of his later years side by side with. On top of all that he loved to help and support others.

Richard is predeceased by his loving wife, Diane Marie Paaso (Garfagna).

Richard is survived by his three children, Mark Paaso, Jaclyn Paaso and Dawn Milne. Along with his five grandchildren, Talia Paaso, Aynika Craig, Kaden Paaso, Tor Paaso & Viggo Paaso.
