Maurice Albert Lepage

Lepage

Maurice Albert Lepage was born in Lewiston to Maurice Marcel Lepage and Alice Elaine Lagasse on Feb 22, 1950. He was their third child and the first boy! Moe helped run Lepage’s Dairy delivering milk in glass bottles to customers in the Lewiston/Auburn area. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1968 and went onto CMVTI (now CMCC) and became a class A machinist. After many years as a machinist and a milkman Moe started his own business. His Dad had retired from the dairy and was his right hand man. They mowed lawns, plowed driveways, tarred driveways, sold loam, rototilled and did general handyman work for many satisfied customers. He loved working with his dad.

He met Joan in 1970 through mutual friends Guy and Connie Boucher. On July 29, 1972 they were married. They went on to have two kids Louise in 1975 and Dan in 1977. Family life with the Lepages was always an adventure. Louise and Dan fondly remember the nights that Joan worked and Moe played hide and seek-( he would send them to hide as he watched the news). In 1988 he and Joan bought an old farmhouse at 25 Key Hill Road in Greene. For over ten years Moe, Joan, Louise and Danny as well as friends and family gutted and rebuilt the house. It truly was a labor of love. Moe loved wood working; it was his art, he could see the potential in each piece of wood. Wood it seemed always yielded its secret wishes to his hands. Like magic it seemed a heap of 2x4’s became a wall frame, 1x8 boards acquired grooved edges and fit together like a puzzle. The farmhouse interior is a monument to his talent. In 1996 the family officially moved to Greene. They lived there for 20 years until it became too difficult for Moe and Joan to live there, so they moved back to the old neighborhood in Lewiston.

Moe loved his kitties, Buster Brown, Raven, Baby and Butter. He has had many interests over the years from drag racing at Oxford Plains Speedways to coin collecting and restoring dodge trucks. He loved going on trips with his in laws Kay and Les, playing farkle and was known for his never ending dice rolls–Moe was all in always. He adored his grandkids and loved hearing about what adventures they were up to. He loved the years he worked with his son on Dodge trucks and on the various handyman jobs he took on. He enjoyed being outside helping boil sap during maple syrup season, building rock dams with grandkids in the brook in Hebron, and helping press apples in the homemade cider press he made for Louise’s family. Moe was a jokester and always instigating something or making a face during a “nice family photo”. He was incredibly strong and hardworking, He was dedicated to his work and his family and had a strong personal faith in God. In his final months of life Moe especially enjoyed visiting with his great niece Macie who was born in February of 2026. She brought him tremendous joy and peace.

He is survived by his wife, Joan, his children and their spouses, Dan and Tanya, Brian and Louise and his seven grandkids, Gabe, Gavin, Wisler, Jaden. Breanna, Ean, and Ben and his two sisters, Jeanette Gross of Pennsylvania and Rita Safford of Maryland. He is predeceased by his brother in law Stuart Gross. A celebration of life will be held at Greene Baptist Church 102 Main St. Greene on October 10. Visiting hours will be from 10-10:30. A memorial service will be at 10:30 followed by a luncheon in the fellowship hall of the church. All are welcome to attend. Please come with a special memory or story to tell about Moe.
