Penelope "Penny" Wilson

Biography:

Augusta - Penelope Wilson, 62 of Hallowell, died November 20 at Maine General Medical Center Center, three months after receiving a diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer.

Penny was born May 31, 1955 at Otis Air Force Base to Stewart I Wilson and Barbara D. Wilson who predeceased her. In her youth, from home base in Falmouth, Ma, she lived in Japan,New Orleans, France, Carlisle, Pa., India and Iran during her father's Army postings.

Penny moved to Maine in the early 1980's to learn housebuilding skills at Cornerstones in Brunswick. She worked as a carpenter, at Slate's Restaurant, Big Brothers Big Sisters,Motivational Services and for over 20 years at Crisis and Counseling Services where she leaves many beloved coworkers and clients.

Penny graduated from high school in Lawrence, Ma in 1974. She was a degree candidate in Cultural Anthropology at Damarand College, Tehran, Iran 1976-1978. She would have completed her degree but was evacuated at the beginning of the Iranian Revolution as martial law was declared. Penny received a B.A. degree with Honors in Social Science from University of Maine at Fort Kent in 1989.

Penny enjoyed watching the news and talking politics, tracking the weather, reading history and mysteries, listening to NPR and BBC with special enjoyment of The Capitol Steps and The Vienna Boys Choir, walking Chloe and the culinary treats at Fat Cat Cafe.

Penny is survived by her brother Stephen Wilson and his wife, Bebe of N.H. and her brother Scott Wilson and his children, Kristen, Maya and Nolan, of Massachusetts. Penny's pets Chloe and Squirrely Earl now reside with adoptive families of her choosing.

Penny's family of friends offer our deepest appreciation for the care provided her by Dr. Julia Moukharskaya and staff at the Alfond Center for Cancer Care, Dr. Robert Dohner and Marietta Dyer, LCSW of Maine General Palliative Care Services and the remarkably gifted nursing staff on 2 West.

A celebration of Penny's life will be held on Saturday December 16 from 1-3 at Maple Hill Farm Bed and Breakfast Inn and Conference Center, 11 Inn Road, Hallowell.

In lieu of flowers, Penny requested that donations be made in her honor to Hubbard Free Library, 115 Second Street, Hallowell 04347.Arrangements are under the care of Funral Alternatives 198 Western Ave, Augusta www.funeralalternatives.net
