Biography:

BATH, ME – Leverett A. "Rob" Robinson, 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2015 at Mid Coast Medical Center in Brunswick, ME the result of a severe stroke he suffered on Wednesday August 26.

He was a good man; he had a very wonderful and happy life. Rob will be remembered for being devoted to his family. After moving to Springfield, MA in 1967 he enjoyed the adventures and great memories of yearly family vacations spent on Vinalhaven. His hobbies included model ship building. He was an excellent model ship builder and built many wooden ships from scratch, without plans which he enjoyed giving to family and friends. Many days the shipyard would open at 7 AM and not close until 7 PM. Rob was an avid gardener and created beautiful perennial flower gardens around Seacliff Apartments. He enjoyed learning about the history and events of World War II. In his service years he enjoyed the German countryside and the German people while he was stationed in Germany. He collected open salts and cobalt blue glassware. He liked a good lobster or seafood. His only vices were jellybeans and soft serve vanilla ice cream. He had a deep voice, calm demeanor, a great sense of humor and a hearty laugh.

Born in Vinalhaven, ME on January 3, 1933, he was a beloved son of the late Nellie (Cooper) 1984 and Freeman Robinson 1972. He was a graduate of Vinalhaven High School in 1951. As a young man he was a lobsterman and he worked for the town of Vinalhaven on roads. In 1967 he moved his family to Springfield, MA where he worked as a bus driver for the Springfield Street Railway and raised his family until he retired in 1995 after 28 years of service. A US Army veteran of the Korean War he received the Occupancy of Germany Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the National Infantry Service Medal. He enjoyed the companionship of the many new friends he made the past 19 years in retirement at Seacliff Apartments in Bath.

He was a communicant of The Day's Ferry Congregational Church in Woolwich. He was predeceased by his brothers Rosco (6 mos. old), Freeman C. Robinson Jr. 1993 and Kern 1993. Rob will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara (Webb); his sister-in-law Ethelyn Day of Vinalhaven, ME; his daughter Sharon and James Stratton of Mondovi WI; his son Brad and Suzanne Robinson of West Springfield, MA; his daughter Tammy E. Robinson and James Nason of Springfield, MA; his grandchildren James Stratton and his wife Elizabeth, Jillian Stratton, Nicholas Stratton, Robert Robinson, Anthony Miles and his wife April; Tarah Garvey and Rico Malvezzi; and Ryan Garvey. Great grandchildren Samuel and Thomas Stratton, Arabella Miles and Myah Malvezzi; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. The picture of him here is at the age of 77 in 2010.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, September 19 at 1:00 PM in Pleasant River Chapel, Vinalhaven, ME, burial with Military Honors will follow in Brown's Head Cemetery.
