Biography:

Ernest Malcom Petley—Lewiston--Ernest Malcom Petley, 85, of Lewiston, passed peacefully with family by his side on December 25, 2018. He was born April 21, 1933 in North Anson, Maine, the son of Andrew Petley and Grace Adams. Ernie enlisted in the Army in 1953 and served in the Korean War. Ernie married the love of his life, Barbara Kilduff on July 2, 1963. He spent his early career in the textile industry and later worked in the construction field. He retired in 1995. Everyone who knew Ernie, aka “Chum”, knew he had a tremendous love of trains and had acquired quite a collection of them over the years. He was also an avid jigsaw puzzle maker all his life and loved his crosswords, as well. Ernie also loved his bicycles and road them at camp all the time. His greatest love was camping. He and Barbara made many lifetime friendships at the campgrounds. They also loved taking the kids in the family with them. A lot of stories and good times were had. His family would like to thank Dr. Raymond Tardiff and the staff at Central Maine Medical Center for taking such good care of him. Ernie was predeceased by his parents, his sister Gladys Theriault, half brother Norman Petley and his half sister Lola May. Survivors include his wife Barbara, brother in law Richard Kilduff and wife Mary Jane, nephew Linden Theriault and wife Brenda, nephew Ronald Theriault, niece June McGraw and husband Bruce, niece Marcella Hutchinson and husband David. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews Visitation will be held on Saturday January 5 from noon to 1 pm at Funeral Alternatives, 25 Tampa Street, Lewiston. A memorial service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, Attn: Office of Devlopment, 2900 N.
