AUGUSTA - Gloria May (French) Martin, 82 , of Augusta, formerly of Windsor and Searsport, and formerly a resident at the Inn at City Hall, passed away on Jan. 5, 2018, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation Long Term Care at Gray Birch, with her family by her side, after a long, hard fought battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Gloria was born in Sangerville on Sept. 27, 1935, the daughter of John and Gladys (Ireland) French. She attended Dover schools and for many years was a stay at home mom, raising her six children. Working outside the home, cleaning houses when her children were older. After the passing of her third husband and soul mate Joseph Martin, Gloria moved to Augusta in 2012.
Gloria found peace and tranquility by visiting the Heritage Waterfront Park in Belfast and was happiest when she was camping and four wheeling with her husband Joe, children and grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her love of cooking, canning and baking, and was known for her delicious apple pies, mouthwatering whoopie pies and cinnamon rolls. And during tough times when her children were little for throwing together a delectable meal from scratch, on a shoe string budget for her family, extended family and friends.
She is survived by four daughters, Barbara McCall of Orlando, Fla., Linda Sprague and her husband Timothy of Chelsea, Donna Woodard of Farmingdale and Bonny York and her husband Barry of Augusta, two sons, Herman Watson Jr. and his wife Barbara of Freedom and Timothy Watson and his wife Nova of Garland; eight grandchildren, Angela Barnes, Dave Barnes, April Roberts, Valerie Moody, Scott Woodard, Matthew Woodard, DeAnn Benson and Janice Watson; ten great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; an adopted brother Dana Gray and his wife Donna of N. Anson; a stepson Rick Lancaster and his wife Ellie of Garland; a special niece Karen Minkwitz Serrato and her husband Rubin of Smithfield, Va.; a special cousin Fran Randall of Windsor; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents John and Gladys French; a brother Albert A. French, two sisters Joann Gilmore and Crystal White, three half sisters Grace Currier, Gladys Huntington and Thelma Hunnington; her first husband and the father of her six children Herman Watson, Sr., her second husband Stephen Lancaster and her third husband and soul mate Joseph Martin.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Inn at City Hal, the staff at Augusta Family Medicine, MaineGeneral Pulmonary Medicine, MaineGeneral Palliative Care and a very special thank you to the entire staff at MaineGeneral HomeCare & Hospice and MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Long Term Care at Gray Birch for all of their love and support over the past two months.
