Ruby Irish

Date of Death: November 20, 2016

Date of Birth: December 11, 1926

Biography:

LITCHFIELD - Ruby (Pratt) Irish passed away, with her family at her side, on November 20, 2016 at the age of 89.

Ruby is survived by her loving children Brenda Irish of Litchfield, and Peg Irish-Rogers and her husband Emile of California, as well as her grandchildren Jason Irish, Darcey Cusick, Sheri Bennett and Candace Rogers, and her siblings Daryl Pratt and Lois Heath. Her memory will live on through the lives of her devoted family, including her children, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Donelvin, their son Brad, her siblings Bessie, Charlie, Jimmy, Clyde, Burleigh, and Phil Pratt, as well as her pony, Dolly.

Ruby was born on December 11, 1926 in Bowdoinham, Maine to James and Polly Pratt. She was lovingly raised by her grandparents Lois and James Pratt, who instilled in her goodness so that she could selflessly provide for her family. In 1944 she married Donelvin, the love of her life. While making her life in Bowdoinham and Litchfield, Ruby worked for Harry Prout, seasonally packing carrots at Prout's Carrot Shed. On her free time she enjoyed knitting and picking any berry in season, to make jams, pie fillings and berries with cream. Over the years, the couple welcomed three children into their home and Ruby set about teaching them to be generous and loving. Throughout her 69 years of marriage, she was a dedicated housewife and compassionate mother. Her family will lovingly remember her as a gentle and nurturing mom who inspired greatness through her strength, generosity and humor.

Ruby was an accomplished baker and kept the house filled with homemade biscuits and desserts. She was often known for baking 20-30 homemade pies for her family's Thanksgiving celebration.

Ruby was an affectionate individual who loved spending time playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruby was passionate about enhancing her family's lives with love, laughter and great desserts.

We will celebrate her life this summer at Peg's house on Snow Pond in Oakland. The gathering will include storytelling while eating some of Gram's favorites things, lobster rolls, orange soda, homemade desserts and strawberries and cream. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ruby's life.

In lieu of sending flowers, please feel free to plant a flower in your garden to remember her nurturing spirit.
