Biography:

BRUNSWICK – William G. Hayden of Brunswick, Maine, died at his home on Sunday June 19, 2016, with his wife Bonita (Smith) Hayden by his side.

Bill was born on January 1st, 1935 in Boston to the late Norman W. and Jessica L. Hayden and raised in Augusta, Maine. He attended Cony High School, graduating in 1952. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, including service in Vietnam, retiring in 1974 after 22 years. He was employed by the Augusta Police Department, and also as a Veterans Affairs Counselor for former U.S. Congressman David Emery in Augusta. He graduated from University of Maine Farmington in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Rehabilitation. After graduation he was employed with Tri-County Mental Health in Lewiston, Maine as a substance abuse counselor in the Androscoggin County Jail. He then went into private practice as a substance abuse counselor in Auburn, Maine, retiring in 2004.

He enjoyed motorcycling, riding his "Big Red" Honda Goldwing with his wife as co-rider throughout the eastern United States and Canadian Maritimes. He liked to golf and was an avid New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan.

He was a member of Brunswick United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife of 30 years, Bill is survived by his son Thomas Hayden and his wife Shanda and their children John and Ashley; stepson Sean Morgan and his wife Gail and their children Kendall and Connor; stepson Michael Morgan and his wife Christina and their children Calin and Lily; brother Larry Hayden and his wife Marjorie; sister Sandra Pomerleau; sister Debbie Lowans and her husband Bill; brother-in-law Don Pelton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister Patricia Pelton.

Bonita would like to thank CHANS Home Hospice for all the special care provided by Andy, Sarah, Abbie, Pam, Cindy, and Ursula to Bill during his illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to Respite Care, 41-4 Greenwood Road, Brunswick, Maine 04011.

A Memorial Service for Bill will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 10am at the Brunswick United Methodist Church, 320 Church Road.
