Date of Death: March 8, 2017

Date of Birth: September 8, 1942

Biography:

George K. Haines passed away March 8, at Stephen's Memorial Hospital, at the age of
74.
He was born in the family home in East Bethel, on September 8, 1942, to James and
Agnes Haines. He grew up on the family dairy farm and attended local schools. After graduating
from Gould Academy he joined the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. Upon
returning to Bethel he worked as a self employed carpenter. He worked on, and built, countless
homes in the Bethel area. After "retiring" from carpentry he worked at Grover Gundrilling.
George was an avid hunter and outdoorsmen. He also loved watching Jeopardy, and the
Red Sox play. He was a history buff who loved reading about local and U.S. history. He was
always quick witted, and quick with a comeback. He belonged to the local Grange, American
Legion, and Masonic Lodge. In 1977 he married Charlene Sprague and they had two children.
In 1988 he built a house in the woods of East Bethel where they raised their family. He enjoyed
spending time with his family, and reading to his new grandson.
He is survived by his son James, and his husband Darren, his daughter Lisa, and her
son Lincoln, his step daughters Joyce, Brenda, and Karen, and numerous step grandchildren
and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Mercer. They enjoyed many
cups of coffee and visits through the years.
He is predeceased by his parents, his wife, his brothers Peter and John, and his stepson
Johnny.
George will be missed by many friends near and far for his sense of humor, his
kindness, generosity, and knowledge. He wished for a service to be held at the East Bethel
Church. One will be planned for the warmer months.
