Hugh T. Edgar

Date of Death: September 19, 2016

Date of Birth: May 29, 1927

Biography:

N. YARMOUTH - Hugh T. Edgar, 89, died on September 19, 2016 in Yarmouth, ME. He spent his last months at The Harbor at Bay Square where he enjoyed excellent care and company, as well as daily visits by his wife of 68 years and family members.

Born on May 29, 1927, to Ruth (Whittington) Edgar Martin and Aubrey Edgar, Hugh attended high school in Saugus, MA before serving in the Navy and graduating from Rhode Island School of Design in 1951.

He married his high school love, Marilyn G. McLean, on May 29, 1948 and after college they moved to Charlestown, NH where they raised their three children. For 35 years, Hugh worked and excelled in the robust machine tool industry of Springfield, VT at Bryant Grinder Corporation (Textron).

Retirement brought ample time for freelance design, skiing and biking, camping and mountain climbing. Vacations on Maine islands with Marilyn and the family were especially memorable. Later in life, he augmented his bike rides near his Charlestown and North Yarmouth homes with strength work-outs at the Keene and Casco Bay YMCAs.

In Charlestown, Hugh participated in the community as Chairman of the School Board, Chairman of the Planning Board and as Director of Sunday School Education at the Congregational Church. He was also active in the local Boy Scouts organization for fifteen years.

Hugh is survived and loved by his wife, Marilyn Edgar, of N. Yarmouth, ME; two daughters: Sheryl and her husband, Scott Jameson, who live in N. Yarmouth, and Susan and her husband, Mark Haubrich, from Putney, VT; and one son: H. Michael Edgar and his wife, Heidi, who reside in Meredith, NH.

Hugh leaves seven grandchildren who will remember him fondly for his dry wit, sartorial advice and unconditional love, five young great grandchildren, and neighbors who became friends.
