Biography:

Robert A. Durkee 79 of Damariscotta died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 in Brunswick with his wife and children by his side.  Robert was born In Lynn Massachusetts on August 10, 1934 to the late Ralph and Irene
(Burnham) Durkee. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1953 serving 30 years, he retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer in 1983. His military career included service in the Vietnam War, Antarctica and on various ships and stations throughout the world. After his retirement from the Navy he worked at Bath Ironworks for eight years.

Never a man to sit idle he was always working on a new home improvement project or outside working on his property. He enjoyed fishing and shooting, gardening and woodworking. He was very skilled with his hands and could build or fix nearly anything. He had a great love for animals and was especially close to his dogs. He possessed a quick wit that will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Robert is survived by his wife of 43 years Hope (Francoeur) Durkee of Damariscotta, his daughter Nicole Durkee and her fiancé Ryan of Chesapeake Virginia. Two sons Richard Durkee and his wife Laurie of Brunswick and Craig Durkee and his wife Beth of Newburyport Massachusetts. Also among his survivors are his grandchildren Heather Durkee, Amanda Durkee, Tyler Durkee, Shane Durkee, Jake Durkee, Great Grand Child Dahlia Nesbitt, and Nephew Mark Durkee and his wife Kerri of Atkinson New Hampshire. Robert was predeceased by his twin brother Richard Durkee and siblings Leroy Durkee, Earl Durkee, George Durkee and Nancy Whitman.

Private services will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to:
