Natalie D. Douglass

Date of Death: October 16, 2014

Date of Birth: December 3, 1945

Biography:

BRUNSWICK and HERMON – Natalie D. Douglass, 68, of Brunswick, and formerly of Hermon, passed away at home on October 16, after a courageous battle with cancer and several other serious health issues.

She was born in Bar Harbor on December 3, 1945, a daughter of Alton and Rose (Kane) Wentworth. She grew up in Southwest Harbor and graduated from Pemetic High School, class of 1964. She was a 1965 graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Practical Nursing.

She married Dale A. Douglass on August 5, 1967. During their forty-seven years of marriage, they were true soul mates and best friends.

Over the course of her career in Nursing, Natalie was employed at St. Joseph's Hospital, Bangor, Regional Memorial Hospital, Brunswick, and the Maine Center for Cancer Medicine, Brunswick. Her ever present smile and genuine concern for others were frequently noted and appreciated by her patients and colleagues alike.

Natalie was a former member and Past Worthy Matron of Jonathan Hunt Chapter #9, Order of the Eastern Star. She also enjoyed making and sharing her quilts and knitting projects with her friends and family.

As much satisfaction as Natalie gained from her work and hobbies, her real joy came from being a mother and wife. As a mother, she was actively involved in her daughters' lives over the years, including serving as a Girl Scout leader and volunteering for many of their school events. She was their best role model for their journey into life and parenthood. Natalie supported her beloved husband with his career, but she was most proud of their partnership that provided love, support, security and opportunities to their daughters. Natalie was overjoyed to become a grandmother and was an important and loving part of her granddaughters' lives.

Natalie is survived by her husband, Dale; her two daughters, Kimberly Spiliakos and Peter of Hudson, Massachusetts, and Karen Tolusic and Mislav of Alexandria, Virginia; her two granddaughters, Margrett and Natalie Spiliakos; and baby Tolusic due in November. She is also survived by a special sister, Donna Olesky of Kenduskeag, a special sister-in-law, Joan Douglass of Bangor, a very special niece, Jill Bryant of Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her family wishes to thank the health care professionals of CHANS Hospice and Dr. Thomas Keating for their support and care of Natalie.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Natalie spent her life helping others. In lieu of flowers or donations, Natalie would be most pleased if you keep her memory alive by doing something nice for someone who may need a helping hand, and smile and think of her as you do.
