Biography:

Mary (Baker) Carr, 88, passed away on September 25, 2014, in Brunswick, ME where she resided for the last 9 years. She was the beloved wife for almost 69 years of Frederick S. Carr. 

Born in Boston, March 6, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Royce) Baker and Roland Morris Baker, Jr., and grew up with her three sisters in Weston, MA, graduating from The Winsor School, Boston. She attended the New England Conservatory of Music to study piano until her marriage to Fred on October 25, 1945. 

After the births of their four children, and moving to Concord, MA, Mary returned to the New England Conservatory and received her B.A., Music in 1982.  An accomplished pianist and music teacher, she taught at the Nashoba Brooks School, Concord, for many years, sharing her love of music with her students, as she did with her family. 

Mary and Fred moved to Yarmouth, ME in 1982, where she continued to teach piano to children and adults. A lifelong sailor, Mary spent summers gardening and sailing the coast of Maine with her husband. She was an active member of St Bartholomew’s Church, Yarmouth, where she played the organ for many years before moving to Thornton Oaks in Brunswick. 

She was survived by her husband Frederick S. and by her four children Frederick S., Jr. of Cambridge, MA, Hope Baker-Carr of South Burlington, VT, Stephen E. and his wife Kathryn (Kate) of Concord, MA, and Sarah (Sayzie) of Kent, CT, and six grandsons. 

A memorial service will be held at St. Bartholomew’s Church, 396 Gilman Rd, Yarmouth, ME, November 1, 2014 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 383 US Route One, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
