Sigrid L. Borssen

Biography:

Sigrid L. Borssen, 77, of Belgrade, died unexpectedly on October 8^th, 2013 at Maine Medical Center.

 

She was born on January 3^rd, 1936 in Kiel, Wisconsin, the daughter of Edwin and Eldora (Schubert) Hayner.

 

Sigrid attended schools in Kiel, after which she married Arne F. Borssen in 1956. They moved to Maine in 1966 and to Belgrade in 1974 where they were residents for 40 years. She was a long time volunteer at the Humane Society Waterville Area and had also served on the board of directors. Sigrid’s passion for animals was only secondary to her love for her family.

 

She had worked at the State Hospital in Augusta in the early 1970’s. Sigrid and her husband, Arne, started Borssen Antiques shortly after moving to Maine and settled in Belgrade where the business became established.

 

She is survived by her sons Bjorn Borssen and wife Joyce of NH; Sten Borssen of Skowhegan; daughters Ingrid Jackson and husband Levi of Sidney; Andrea Borssen of Skowhegan; MaiBritt Hamm and husband Alfred of Ft. Pierce, FL; sister Karin Schrieber of WI; 7 grandchildren Thor, Lars, Stefan, Ryan, Brita, Jasmin, Breanna; 5 great-grandchildren Chase, Landon, Ryan Jr., Kayden, Jayda; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Arne of 55 years on January 6^th, 2011 and an infant son Dimitri Borssen.
