October 27, 2019 | MICHAEL N GOLDMAN - Canajoharie, NY -- United States

Dr. Smith was a great Superintendent. I served with him as the student representative to the Framingham school committee for 3 years from 2001-2004.

He was a great man, who loved children and education. He also understood the hard reality of managing a large suburban school district.

He wrote me a wonderful letter of recommendation for college. He will be missed.

Dear Judy,
Mark was a special person and a visionary in education. David so enjoyed working with him. I lost Dave just three months ago so I'm sure he welcomed Mark to his heavenly home! Best wishes, Cathy

October 23, 2019 | Sheila & Rich - Hudson, MA -- US

We have lost a good man who gave so much to friends and family as well as the world at large. He fought the good fight of his cancer (and other bodily "insults") with admirable fortitude and grace - with Judy always his partner in this journey. We enjoyed his warm friendship and keen mind for many years. We will miss him.

My sympathy for Judy & family

October 23, 2019 | Anne Mazzola - Framingham, MA -- USA

Dear Judy,

Joe and I are so sorry to hear about Mark’s death. I knew the first day I met him so many years ago that day in New Jersey that Framingham was gaining an amazing Superintendent , leader, and community activist. I was not only privileged to work with him for almost 10 years but honored to be considered his friend. We will miss his humor, big smile, and incredible kindness.

With all our love,

Anne and Joe Mazzola

I am very saddened to hear of Mark's passing. He was the sole reason for which I made the leap from teacher to leader -- he believed in me before I believed in myself. I will never forget his mentorship and encouragement. I carry this practice with me, and try to mentor others and inspire them to grow. Were it not for Mark, I would not have had the chance to become the educator that I am today. May he rest in peace.

October 21, 2019 | Pamela Kaufmann - Natick, MA -- United States

Mark Smith hired me as the Director of Special Education, Framingham Public Schools in 1997. His leadership, his brilliance and kindness was an inspiration to me and my office. I thank him for his contributions to Framingham.

My deepest condolences to his family.

Mark was a wonderful friend, comrade, and fellow poet. it was wonderful to see his love for poetry, and the written products of that love, blossom over the last few years, and, of course, as his poetry teacher at MidCoast Senior College I was proud of my "student" - a man of intelligence, creativity, and love. Many of us will miss him, many of us will remember him.

October 21, 2019 | Victor & Gretchen Rosenberg - Florham Park, New Jersey -- USA

Our hearts go out to Judy & the family. Mark was a close friend of 40 years. He was a bright, warm, caring, and loving man who adored his family. He will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have him in their lives. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to say goodbye to him and to tell him how much his friendship meant to us and that he was loved. Rest In Peace dear friend.

Dear Judy,
I will miss Mark in our community and on the Board of Birch Meadow. He was a calm, steady person who could convey his opinions in a collaborative manner. He was a gentle soul. Beth
