Georgia and I were neighbors and driving to sc.hool every day friends...we used to end up at her house every day after school watching Space Patrol on t.v. I arrived at Tower in 1998, when Georgia was already legend. I might have been intimidated, if she had not been so completely gracious and gone out of her way to welcome me. I got to know Georgia mostly as a very interested grandmother to some of my kindergarten students, and will always be grateful for her kindness and insight. We are thinking of all of you.

When I heard about the passing of "Mrs. Sledge" I was flooded with wonderful memories of a teacher who had such a deep impact on my life. I still use the spelling tricks that she taught me on a daily basis in the course of my work, which requires daily writing. I was actually in the last class at Tower that had Mrs. Sledge (I finished sixth grade in 1996) and I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to be in her classroom. Not only was she an incredible teacher, but she was a loving nurturer and mentor. She was a dynamic and multi-talented woman and she confidently shared her gifts with so many young people. Her influence will ripple through generations. As I think about teaching my own daughters to read and write in the years to come, I will make every attempt to pass on the love of learning and creative curiosity that Mrs. Sledge instilled in me. Georgia (Mrs. Sledge) was my favorite teacher ever. I am so sad to hear that she is no longer with us. I had not talked to her in many years but I thought of her often. She taught me when she was fresh out of Goucher and newly married; she taught my three children, Tony, Ben and Annie many years later and she made a positive mark on them as well. RIP
