November 1, 2012 | Sharon Oliver Knape - Omaha, Nebraska -- USA

I met Sumner about 8 or 9 years ago when I first learned that he was a Pratt relative of mine. I learned that Ezra Fluent Pratt was my mother's father, and not the man who raised my mother, Wallace Pierce of Southport, Maine. Sumner reminded me of my Uncle Francis Oliver of Georgetown, Maine (my father's only sibling). His voice and accent was so similar to Francis. Even though I came into the Pratt family 'through the back door' he was so kind and gracious to me. I did not have proof that Ezra was my grandfather, but July 19, 2012 Family Tree DNA sent me results of a DNA test that proved the paternity puzzle and linked me to the Bryant family. The Bryants were grandparents or great grandparents of Ezra. I phoned Sumner to tell him the news and he shared his memories of a young boy going to visit Ezra in Southport, and Pratt's Island. I sent him a letter outlining our cousin relationship. I expected to hear from him, as he had sent me the diary of Gustavas Clark Pratt (Civil War). I thought he might have some old treasured photos of his Pratt relatives. I was so sad to hear that he died shortly after I spoke with him on the phone. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word. He will be missed.

Bill and David,

We just learned about your Dad's death today. Harding and Evelyn and you boys were special to Ellie Silver and me. Both of your parents were fine people. We visited your Dad in Oct 2010 and talked about you and old times.

I would like to correspond with you if you can give me an address. Cell 330-807-9051.

I will definitely miss Mr. Peck as a regular customer at Tabers. I will always think of him when someone orders a "crispy" onion ring. He was truly a fine gentlemen who lived a good life and enjoyed a loving family.

September 15, 2012 | Alex and Sarah Johnson - Bryant Pond, Maine -- United States

I have known Sumner for about 9 years. I work at Rowe Auburn and met him there where he has brought his cars for service. I have also helped him out at home for numerous years. I enjoyed listening to him talk about many of his adventures throughout his life. He was very happy to meet and talk about my wife and newborn daughter. Our condolences go out to his family.

September 15, 2012 | Richard Rau - Turner, Maine -- USA

I am very sad to learn of the passing of Mr. Peck. My family and I have very fun memories of visiting him in his Auburn home where he generously shared his very extensive model train set with us. Showing us how everything worked and inviting us to be the "engineers."
We will miss him.

September 14, 2012 | Mike Durgin - Auburn, Maine -- USA

I grew up with Mr Peck's Son, Billy, and knew Mr. Peck to be a strong- straightforward man of few words... words that one listened to.
He came from a generation that lived through times that formed our nation- actions spoke louder than words. Clearly, his WWII service hepled move our nation out of harms way.
He will be missed.
Billy- lets get together with the old gang.
Mike Durgin

September 12, 2012 | Joel Olstein MD - Auburn, Maine -- US

I knew Mr. Peck for the last twenty years of his life. We had wonderful conversations about life, illness and his (and my) beloved New Yor Giants. Mr. Peck was a consummate gentleman; always polite and good humored. I was interested to read about his military service during World War II. I will certainly miss him.

September 12, 2012 | De Ann 'Blondie' Pepin - Lewiston, Maine -- U.S.A.

I was one of several people who helped Sumner around the house for a few months. He was a little gruff, at first, but we quickly became friends. He had a great sense of humor and could always make me laugh. I enjoyed listening to his stories about WWII, his college years and childhood. He had a very full and interesting life.

'Blondie' was his nickname for me. If he wanted something and I wasn't close by, he would yell "Hey, Blondie!"

My sympathies go out to his two sons and grandson.
