May 26, 2015 | Gil Donatelli - Cave Creek, AZ -- United States

My deepest condolences and prayers and love to Ann and family. I apologize that
I am terribly remiss in my timing - I have been reading Ken's poetry since his passing and find a deep, whole-souled man who loved God, his wife, his children, his family, others and life.
I feel immeasurably blessed to have worked with Ken at YHS. He was the consummate teacher, mentor, administrator, friend. He created joy for others - community - family. He was a brilliant orchestrator and empower-er of his faculty. He loved his school and students and we all loved him. Such a good, rare man. I know he had a deep faith too. Vaya con Dios dear friend until we meet again...

Ken's mom and dad were friends back in Greenwich, Ct. If Ken Jr. was half as charming as his father, the pastor of the Second Cong. Church, he was a leading light.

November 2, 2012 | Marcia Duncan Minichiello - Washington, DC -- USA

Heartfelt condolences to all the Nye family.
My sister Nancy and I grew up with Ken and Bill in Chappaqua. My memories of Ken from childhood and my high regard for the creative, inspirational person he grew to be will not fade with his passing.

October 30, 2012 | Barbara Bowen Carr - Copake, New York -- USA

I was so sorry to hear of Ken's passing. My mom, Velma Bowen, a fellow resident at Bay Square, considered him a friend & admired his poetry. She left Bay Square in June, when her health declined, & just passed away October 26, 2012. Such losses! My sympathies to his family!

Although I only knew Ken for a short period of time, I gained so much inspiration from him. His lust for life, respect for others and ability to see the good in everything changed me into a better person. I can only imagine what his students, fellow friends and family gained from him. His morals an values will live on through myself and the many others who were impacted by such a wonderful person.

October 27, 2012 | Neal & Lesli Weiner - Gray, Maine -- USA

We will miss Ken dearly at our Parkinson support group meetings and arranging the gathering at the Muddy Rudder. He touched our hearts at the last meeting he attended where he read his poetry. Our love and support goes out to you, Ann, and to your family.

I had the honor of having Dr. Nye as my principal while at Yarmouth High School. Later I had the privilege of having him as a colleague at USM. He was an inspiration to all. He had a great sense of humor and was an amazing teacher/educator. He will be greatly missed.

October 25, 2012 | Shannon (McNamara) Wasilewski - Foxborough, MA -- USA

I feel honored to have had Dr. Nye as my high school principal in Yarmouth. I remember him as kind, fair, and generous. It is only now that I am a high school teacher myself that I realize how talented, inspirational, and progressive he was. He will be missed.

I was very sad to hear of Ken's passing. I was fortunate enough to have Ken as a professor at USM for introduction to administration. Our school (Oak Hill Middle) was also blessed with his presence at our first annual Writer's Workshop last year where Ken shared his poetry. My condolences go his family, Ken was a truly inspiring man.

October 25, 2012 | Oak Hill Young Writers' Club, Inc. - Sabattus, ME 04280 -- USA

Just want to say that Ken was very much an inspiration to the students that attend Oak Hill Middle School and our staff. He showed everyone of us that even though you may have a disability, you have a purpose for being alive and to find that foundation (God) in achieving your dreams and goals. God has a good person next to Him!

October 25, 2012 | Holly - Portland, Maine -- USA

I was saddened to hear of Ken's passing. He was my advisor in the Educational Leadership program at USM and was truly inspirational, compassionate and genuinely caring. I was having difficulty managing a chronic illness at the time I met Ken and his wisdom and comfort assisted me in continuing my studies and in shaping the educator and leader I became. He will be sadly missed.

October 24, 2012 | Alan H. Hawkins - South Portland, Maine -- USA

There is no question in my mind that a very caring, honorable and creative man has left our us. Having known Ken for many years, it has been his poetry that truly let us all know the inner man. He was dedicated to his wife and family and also to all of us who knew and cared so much for him. How well I remember his surprise visit to me several years ago in my office in Cape Elizabeth. Tonight I will again read his poetry and remember.

- Alan H. Hawkins, currently interim
Superintendent in RSU#12.

To the Nye Family,
My prayers go out to you in this time of loss. Ken was a remarkable person and a gifted educator. He spoke often at my graduate level classes and had many innovative ideas for raising the level of services to school children. I enjoyed his sense of humor and his wonderful stories! He will be dearly missed by all who knew him, and I will count it as a blessing that I was one of them. All of my memories of him are positive and I cannot recall him ever speaking negatively about another human being! That in itself is a true gift. Peace at last Ken!

Sorry to hear of Ken's passing. My condolences to his entire family. I started my teaching career in Rumford in the fall of '71. Ken was a great guy and did great things for RHS and inspired people to think outside the box and not be scared to do that!
I also served on his initial committee of the 1st Annual Fall Festival of Faculty Friendliness and a great time was had by all and also brought the faculty together! He will be missed but will also be remembered for this contributions to society!

Again, my condolences to his family!

I will always smile when I think of Ken. He was a gentle, kind spirit who led his staff at Yarmouth by example. I feel fortunate to have known him. He always admitted and apologized when he was wrong and never let his anger or frustration show. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Ken was my principal in Rumford for four years.
He was a class act who set a positive tone for
the entire high school. I think the reason everyone
respected him was that he respected us, despite
all of our imperfections. He inspired many...

I am so sorry to hear of Ken's passing. We were so blessed to know him when he was at Bay Square at Yarmouth. I work in a physical therapy clinic where I met Ken about 7 years ago. He was seen on and off over the years for different ailments. I remember him as a soft spoken, kind, intelligent and sweet man who loved his wife Annie, his children and of course his beloved dogs. He would just randomly come in to visit and would give me and his therapist his latest poetry book which I absolutely loved and admired. I last saw him about a year ago.

I am truly shocked and saddened by his passing. I will remember him with a big smile and know that he is also smiling down on us.

October 23, 2012 | Donna Jamison - Cantonment, Florida -- USA

Ken was a dear friend, mentor and true "Renaissance" man. He was a gifted educator, leader, artist and poet who impacted thousands of students and hundreds of educators in extraordinary ways-he will be missed. For me, Ken instilled a keen sense of always considering how decisions would impact students-his focus and leadership guide many of us daily in doing what is best for students. Thank you Ken, I am a better person for knowing and working with you.

Sincerely,

Marc
