January 6, 2015 | Robert D. Hillis - Brookfield, New Hampshire -- USA

I met Mark when he got hired as a land surveyor for the Unites States Fish and Wildlife Service. We became fiends. I enjoyed working with Mark. We always had an adventure. I've missed him since he retired and now I'll miss him more. I hope he's surveying the great beyond. Rest in peace Mark.

January 5, 2015 | Mike Hayden - Montague, Massachusetts -- USA

I worked with Mark at the Fish and Wildlife Service. I appreciate his thoughtful advice and guidance he provided over those years. He was a great surveyor! My thoughts and Prayers go out to Marks family during this difficult time.

Mike Hayden

January 5, 2015 | Greg Thompson - Hadley, ma -- usa

It was an honor to work alongside Mark for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. His survey work will last forever and can be seen along the boundaries of numerous National Wildlife Refuges in the Northeast. Mark left the place better than he found it and those special places will be here for generations to come (human and otherwise)! Rest in peace, kind sir....greg:)

January 5, 2015 | Joe McCauley - Orange, Massachusetts -- USA

I had the privilege to work with Mark during his time as a surveyor in the Regional Office of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Hadley Massachusetts. He was a professional, dedicated to his work and that of the Service. His work lives on through protection of fish and wildlife habitat enjoyed by all Americans as part of the National Wildlife Refuge System. Vaya con Dios, Mark.

January 2, 2015 | Mark - Osborne, Arundel, Maine -- USA

My friend Mark and I had a lot of fun together as teens, both in each other's classes and outside of school, sharing our love of music together and maybe a little mischief now and then. He was a thoughtful, kind, loyal and intelligent friend; introspective but also quick to find humor, with an infectious laugh which I can still hear. If he liked you you knew it, and he loved his good family and often included their names in conversations with me. The last I had heard from him was too many years ago when he had moved to Northern NH to work at his new career but had come over to my house in Arundel for dinner one night. Though we've been out of touch for a long time I still considered him my good friend. All these years since then I just figured that he was still there, happy, healthy, and working hard at his passion. I always thought we'd be closer friends again one day, sooner or later, and that it was just a matter of time. It sounds cliche but time does go by very fast and lots of "want to's" get put off. And then you find out it's too late and I just feel so regretful and heartbroken. Friends who are also brothers, like Mark Nelmes, are so rare.

To Mark: I can only hope that you had a good life my friend. The past keeps shrinking and the world seems smaller today. I've always missed our friendship, and always will. Love to you and your family. -Mark.
